Julia Chu serves as the Head of Philanthropy & Family Governance Advisory at Neuberger Wealth, a division of Neuberger. She leads the practice in guiding individuals and families to convey their values and priorities through future generations. She serves as both a technical resource in complex charitable planning and an experienced sounding board to share effective practices leveraged by significant families worldwide.

In philanthropy, Julia guides clients through all phases of their philanthropic journey, from distilling mission, to refining strategy, to extending legacy across generations. She has also guided non-profit institutions in mission communication, board governance, and marshalling resources. For families and family offices, she fosters active dialogue to develop each family’s governance system, documenting their history, distilling their core principles and articulating their common vision. Whether clients are interested in philanthropy, investment protocols or other important legacy elements, the family's desired future serves as the guiding reference for establishing the role of the family members in implementing policies and ground rules. She is especially intent on cultivating the next generation, which she finds is the key to a successful future.

As a recognized thought leader, Julia has published in trust and estate journals, including Leimberg’s Estate Planning and Charitable Planning Newsletters, the NYS Bar Association Trusts and Estates Law Section Journal, Trusts and Estates Magazine, and the Estate Planning Journal. Julia has also lectured widely in the arenas of philanthropy and family governance, with her perspective featured in the New York Times, Forbes, the Financial Times and Barron’s. She has led sessions for a Master’s-level course at New York University’s Heyman Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising.

Julia received an LLM in Taxation from New York University School of Law, a JD from Boston University and a BA from Cornell University as well as a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® designation. She has been awarded the GEN Certificate in Family Business Advising (CFBA) and the Certificate in Wealth Advising (CFWA) by the Family Firm Institute.
