Elizabeth M. Sommer, Senior Vice President, joined the firm in 1999. She is the Chief Fiduciary Officer and Head of Personal Trust for Neuberger Berman Trust Company N.A. Elizabeth has over 30 years of legal experience, specializing in estate planning and federal and state gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax planning. Prior to joining the firm, she was counsel at Reboul MacMurray, Hewitt, Maynard & Kristol (now known as Ropes and Gray) managing its Personal Affairs group. Previously, she was an associate at Katten Muchin Rosenman & Colin. Elizabeth’s broad range of experience has included succession planning with closely held businesses; charitable gift planning working with both individuals and institutions, including establishing and counseling private foundations; retirement and qualified benefit planning; planning for non-resident aliens; advising fiduciaries on trust and estate administration issues; purchasing and selling residential real estate; and preparation of matrimonial agreements. Elizabeth has lectured at various institutions on estate planning and tax matters. She is a member of the American Bankers Association Trust Tax Committee. She received her AB magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University and a JD from New York University School of Law.
